Call for Papers: Special Issue on Recommender Systems in Industry – Challenges and Solutions (ACM TORS)
The ACM Transactions on Recommender Systems (ACM TORS) is calling for papers for a special issue on recommender systems in the industry.
This special issue aims to address this gap by showcasing recent progress and ongoing challenges in designing and implementing recommender systems in real-world environments. The objective is to guide academic scholars towards understanding critical real-world questions that still require fundamental research or future collaborations with industry.
The topics for this issue are diverse, encompassing domain-specific challenges, case studies, best-practice reports, and success and failure stories. It also includes reports on collaboration between academia and industry, business and consumer value measurements, and the offline and online evaluation gap. Other topics of interest are data engineering challenges, architectures for large-scale systems, recommendation biases, the use of large language models, privacy and security issues, and user interface design challenges. Organizational challenges, such as cross-team collaborations and competing stakeholder goals, are also considered.
Submissions should be between 10 to 20 pages, focusing on real-world challenges and solutions rather than detailed technical expositions or novel technical contributions. The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2024. First-round review decisions will be communicated by March 1, 2025, with revisions due by May 1, 2025. Final decisions will be announced by July 1, 2025.
Authors are encouraged to prepare their submissions according to the TORS guidelines and submit via Manuscript Central. Potential contributors can refer to the TORS author guidelines or contact the editors directly for further information.
